In both of the last two years in the LMP1 class, Porsche had stolen victory from Toyota, which had experienced differing issues. Both TS050 Hybrid’s were able to avoid issues this year on their way to a 1-2 finish. This year’s 24 Hours of Le Mans featured perhaps the strongest group of Toyota drivers ever. Among those who drove for the winning No. 8 team was two-time Formula 1 champion Fernando Alonso; he was joined by Kazuki Nakajima and Sébastien Buemi.
The No. 3 Rebellion Racing team finished third to round out the LMP1 podium.
The winner for the LMP2 class was the No. 26 Oreca G-Drive Racing team. However, the team on Monday reportedly was stripped of its win due to the discovery of an illegal part used in its refuelling rig. The No. 36 Signatech Alpine Oreca team was then credited with victory for LMP2, followed by the No. 39 Graff-S024 team. United Autosports’ No. 32 Ligier was promoted to the final podium spot.
