Thursday was a record-setting night as the Southeastern Conference (SEC) had 15 picks in the first round, smashing the old record of 12, held by the SEC and Atlantic Coast Conference. LSU had five of those, with quarterback Joe Burrow getting selected first overall and running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire being the final pick of the evening.
The second and third rounds are Friday night, and this is where teams can make important strategic moves in the draft as many top players are still available.
Only one running back (Edwards-Helaire) was drafted Thursday night, and two top-shelf quarterbacks are still on the board with Georgia’s Jake Fromm and Oklahoma’s Jalen Hurts. Friday night will go a long way to filling immediate needs of NFL teams.
The Covid-19 crisis, also known as the coronavirus pandemic, forced the NFL to scrap its plan to hold the draft live in Las Vegas, so teams are holding it virtually. NFL commissioner Roger Goodell announced all of the first-round picks Thursday night from the basement of his New York home.
The draft tonight is set for 7 p.m. ET, and it will be televised on ABC, ESPN and the NFL Network. The draft will continue Saturday at noon with rounds 4-7.
