While the chip flavors most snackers favor include BBQ and spicy jalapeño, there are countless others seasonings which for whatever reason have vanished from our superstore shelves.

Whether a limited-edition take on a classic dish or a seasoning that has simply fallen out of fashion, Newsweek rounds up some of the potato chip taste sensations sadly now no longer available.

1. Pringles Pecan Pie Potato Crisps

Pringles in 2014 controversially released their first-ever sweet versions of the usually savory snack housed in their cylindrical-shaped cans.

Their release of Pecan Pie in tandem with White Chocolate Peppermint and Cinnamon & Sugar flavors proved irresistible to curious Pringles fans and the range promptly sold out.

2. Lay’s Wavy Fried Green Tomato Chips

Lays once released a limited edition flavor based on the southern U.S. deep-fried specialty.

This classic taste of the South won rave reviews when released as part of the chip manufacturer’s periodical “Do Us A Flavor” promotion.

3. Cheetos Crunchy Salsa con Queso

Cheetos are the go-to snack for those in need of an instant hit of cheese and potato chip.

This limited-edition spicy take on the classic flavor proved such a hit, Cheetos released another batch in 2020.

4. Lay’s Southern Biscuits & Gravy Chips

Lay’s in 2020 revealed its take on Southern Biscuit and Gravy had won its “Do Us a Flavor” contest.

The classic Southern recipe flavor topped a public poll, beating the equally mouthwatering Kettle Cooked Greektown Gyro, New York Reuben and Wavy West Coast Truffle.

5. Guacamole Doritos

Doritos are the triangular chip designed for dipping, making one flavored with smashed avocado the logical next step.

Doritos Guacamole arrived in 2003, only to be discontinued in 2006, leading to some desperate fans petitioning the company to bring the potato chip flavor back.

6. Cheetos X’s & O’s

The perfect union of cheese and crunch was given a unique twist when Cheetos released the legendary X’s and O’s.

The “dangerously cheesy” chip’s innovative X and O-shapes for once actively encouraged kids to play with their food.

7. Jumpin’ Jack Cheese Doritos

Nacho Cheese is a staple flavor for Doritos, but the popular corn flavored snack has also been available in a delicious Jumpin’ Jack edition.

While the potato chips’ pale color reportedly looked a little unpromising, their flavor won over fans on their release in the mid-1990s.

8. Wild n’ Mild Ranch Fritos

There was a distinct trend for ranch-flavored potato chips in the late 1980s, with both Doritos and Fritos releasing their take on the taste.

This Fritos flavor won a legion of admirers for its particularly powerful hit of spice, which has sadly since been discontinued.

9. Pringles Sloppy Joe Chips

Pringles in 2018 released a potato chip taste based on the all-American classic meal on-the-go—the Sloppy Joe.

Reviewers of the limited-edition flavor praised Pringles for recreating that distinctive blend of beef, smokiness and ketchup associated with the beef sandwich.

10. Sun Chips Sweet & Spicy BBQ Chips

Frito-Lay in 2013 released this hot take on the quotidian barbecue-flavored potato chip snacks.

Their fondly remembered Sweet & Spicy BBQ-flavored multigrain chips blended sweet flavors including molasses, brown sugar and honey, with hints of spice for balance for that realistic barbecue taste.

11. Lay’s Cheddar Bacon Mac and Cheese Chips

Mac n’ cheese with added bacon is possibly the ultimate in comfort food.

But Lays in winter 2019 managed to elevate this meal even more, when they released for a limited time only their potato chip flavored take on this classic.

12. Kettle Brand Maple Bacon Potato Chips

Maple syrup pancakes with a side of bacon is an indulgent breakfast treat and this winning flavor was for a limited time even available on potato chips.

Reviewers were instantly enamored by this winning combination of sweet and salt, but this experimental seasoning is now no longer available.

13. Lay’s Wavy Milk Chocolate Covered Potato Chips

Potato chips and chocolate are not foodstuffs you would normally associate.

However, to mark Valentine’s Day 2021, Lay’s released a limited edition of their signature snack dipped in rich milk chocolate.

14. Cape Cod Back Bay Crab Seasoning

The perennially popular Utz Crab Potato Chips are proof this is a winning seasoning.

Cape Cod released a limited edition range of their own crab flavored potato chips, which reportedly had a slightly spicy kick.

15. Pringles Prints

Pringles Prints are arguably among the most innovative potato chip ranges ever released.

Each crisp had a fact or joke printed on top in edible ink, adding even more enjoyment to the snacking experience.

16. Clancy’s Limón Flavored Chips

The inclusion of fresh citrus to these potato chips cleverly cuts through the usual fat and salt associated with crisps.

Unfortunately for fans, this brand popular of potato chips was discontinued in the late 2010s.

17. Deep River Snacks’ Asian Sweet & Spicy Kettle Cooked

This former potato chip flavor is fondly remembered for packing a powerful taste reminiscent of the orient.

However, this flavor is now no longer available, much to the disappointment of fans, although the taste lives on in several dedicated blog posts online.

18. Keebler Munch ‘Ems

A curiously crunchy cross between a potato chip and a cracker, Keebler Munch ‘Ems were available in numerous varieties.

However, the brand which included sour cream and onion, ranch and cheddar was permanently discontinued in the early 2000s.

19. Pizzarias Potato Chips

Pizzarias Pizza Chips were a unique line of snack chips made from fresh pizza dough by the Keebler Company.

The pizza-shaped chips, which were sadly discontinued in the 1980s, were available in the classic tastes of the Mediterranean.

20. Route 11 Garlic & Herb

Route 11 Garlic & Herb potato chips were a one-off in the world of superior snacks as they closely approximate the taste of fresh garlic bread.

This product had the tagline “Made in Limited Quantities, but in Unlimited Quality” is also fondly remembered for its unusually thick crisps which still managed to retain their crunch.
